The budget hotel Mediterranee in Patras was truly exceptional with amazing value. the location was the best possible, just a 10-15 minute walk from a Greek Orthodox basilica. There were also a mall and a local market around the property, making it convenient.

We could not get good directions from the hotel staff or anyone else. We were told that the directions from the ferry at the dock were too difficult to give to us and we should take a taxi. When we landed there was a general strike in Greece and at the port as well. No one would give us correct directions to even get us out of the port and off the dock (even the police) and there were no taxis. We dragged ourselves a long way around and through the chain link and barbwire fence over the tracks, through the railway station and over to a taxi stand that was taken over by 20 or more harley davidson motorcycles (there was a huge convention of harley riders and bikers of any where from 10 to 30 thousand bikers that week).

After traveling through a number of countries, staying in hotels, and on-board long distance ferries, this was the worst of our experiences, a small room with marginally functional toilet, no toiletries provided, uncomfortable beds, marginal breakfast buffet, etc., . Its redeeming feature was its convenient location, although many other hotels were in the same area. We wold neither recommend it for price nor for any other factor.

Father staff was very helpful on more than one occasion. After all in the end it is the people that count. The breakfasts are wonderful, and the location excellent. They could improve on non smoking rooms.
Smell of stale smoke in room....

The food options were delicious and diverse, and the queen room I booked was both affordable and clean.

The hotel is in the centre of the city, very close to train station, taxi and ferry ( 5 finutes walk). Easy to find. There is a lift. Breakfast is simple but enough for this price - hot and cold drinks, cheese, ham, fruit salad, fresh fruit, eggs, cakes. Towels were changed every day. Receptionist very helpful. It is in pedestrian area. There are lots of shops, restaurants and cafes nearby.
Beds and pillows are hard. We stayed in a room for four people but one bed was in the hall!

Good position in the town, quite central.
They put only one small towel in our room before we asked, they brought another also small. For that size a civilized creature would need two. Not a hanger of a towel bar in the bathroom near the shower. The hotel is in a place where there are teraces/restaurants extremely noisy very late in the night. The street was very dirty, even sticky under the steps. The drawer was OK in the outside part, but unbelievable damaged inside.
